Won't Be Long Now
2024
Compositing done in Nuke
Animated in Blender, rendered in Cycles
Won't Be Long Now is a 2024 horror short film created by William Nawrocki III. I worked on animation and compositing for this film as a subcontractor for Third Beacon Studios in August through September 2023. The film was nominated for and won several awards, including a Silver Telly award for best VFX. I initially worked on animation for several shots of the monster, and later primarily worked on compositing.
The baby eye shot interesting to work on in particular- it allowed me to experiment with Blender's new (at the time) simulation features in Geometry Nodes. Rather than drawing the individual paths the expansion would take, I wrote a nodetree to procedurally branch and grow the tendrils over time. I would later use a similar technique for procedurally generating tree growth in Ouroborealis.
